KPU
Telecommunications is one of three divisions of Ketchikan Public Utilities.
KPU provides Ketchikan residents and businesses with telephone, water
and electrical services. KPU, as part of the City of Ketchikan,
is operated by the publicly elected Ketchikan City Council. In
simple terms, KPU Telecommunications is owned by the residents of The
City of Ketchikan. KPU Telecommunications employs 39 local Ketchikan
residents.
KPU Telecommunications
maintains its commitment to provide the most current communication technology
by continually developing new products and services which meet the needs
of Ketchikan residents. KPU Telecommunications currently has over
11,000 subscriber lines and in 1997 completed installation of the Nortel
DMS 100 digital switch. Work is continuing on building a Sonet
based fiber optic network. Both the residential and business customers
of Ketchikan are benefiting from Enhanced Telecommunication Services
such as Custom Calling, Voice Mail, Caller ID, CLASS, Paging, Business
Systems, Internet Service, and DSL Service. KPU Telecommunications
is committed to meeting the growing communication needs of Ketchikan
and staying current in today's changing technological world.
